Help global relief efforts
We are committed to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by the war in Yemen through a range of sustainable projects, providing tangible results with a positive impact.
We are a non-governmental, 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to alleviating the suffering caused by the ongoing conflict in Yemen. Officially established in New York City in 2018, from its more informal beginnings in 2015, HRD is the result of friends and community pulling together to find a way to help those less fortunate.
Our work in Yemen seeks to assist both families and individuals caught up in the conflict, supporting effective projects that provide medical and economic relief. We are registered on GuideStar, so you can find more information about our organization.
Humanity for Relief and development, (HRD), began with a group of childhood friends seeing the suffering in Yemen and wanting to do something to help. All of Yemeni origin, the group would meet up after Friday prayers and talk about the worsening situation in Yemen, until they decided that they had to do something themselves to help those caught in the devastation of the war-torn country.
The initial idea that became the first project involved providing a stable water supply to a number of villages where a lack of resources meant water was a scarce commodity. Together with friends and family, the group funded the initiative to restore water, and it proved successful.
Since then, as a group we have sought out smaller projects to assist, ranging from helping school teachers who had their salaries cut due to withdrawal of government funding, to doing a yearly Ramadan food basket that included flour, sugar, rice, and dates for poor families in rural areas.
As the war continued and the conditions worsened, our work began to focus more orphans, widows and families without a head of household to take care of them. It has been a long but rewarding journey that has allowed us to help many people, and we are very proud of our record.
From those early beginning onwards, we have built strong and dedicated team of volunteers who work tirelessly to reach those who need our help. Our volunteers are passionate and committed to helping the needy one life at a time as we all work together to write the next chapter of our story.
Our team members based in Yemen include a project manager and a team of volunteers who provide invaluable oversight of each project and budget. A large number of our volunteers are orphans themselves. As such, they are very dedicated to the work and passionate about ensuring that everything is done to relieve the suffering of others.
Our US based team is volunteer based, including board members, with a diverse group of dedicated volunteers that cover a wide age range who work diligently to ensure the success of every project.
